    Watching the serials

    Before watching and listening

    • Carefully consider the questions of the activity related to the particular episode.
    • To help you, in some episodes you will be given some new vocabulary with the meanings. Please learn those words before watching the episode.

    The first viewing

    • While you are watching the episode the first time do not worry if you do not understand much of what you hear. Instead work out what the main theme is. In other words, what is the gist of what they are saying? New words will be used and at some stage we will return to those.

    The second and subsequent viewings

    • Replay the drama. While you are watching and listening, answer the questions for that episode. If you are not able to answer all the questions, replay the episode until you have completed them all. You should write your answers.
    • Then check your answers with the model answers if they are provided.

Later you should return to the dramas of earlier episodes. You are almost certain to understand most of these by then.

There are benefits to be gained by being exposed to language you do not fully comprehend. Later, when you encounter explanations of vocabulary, grammar and idioms in the textbook, having already met them in context earlier will often help you understand and learn them.
